OUR FUNDING

The camps are organised and run on a voluntary basis, and are completely free of charge for the children involved. In previous years, the travel and the meals of volunteers and the euqipment have been covered

by the Eszter Andorka Grant of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary (ELCH),

as well as generous contributions from private donors.

In 2024, the summer camp cost 355, the HOB workshop cost 125 thousand HUF, respectively. Altogether, they lasted 7 days and we managed to organize them with a budget 150 thousand HUF less than that of the 5-day summer camp in 2023.

The budget of the 4th Szentimre Summer Camp (2023)

In 2023, despite the growth of the number of volunteers, the costs of travelling and even meals did not increase significantly. However, we spent an exceptionally high amount of money on equipments, especially for experiential pedagogy and costumes.

The budget of the 3rd Szentimre Summer Camp (2022)

The increased travel costs for the 2022 camp are partly due to the higher number of cars (3 instead of 2) and partly to the higher cost of petrol. However, we had to spend less on equipment, thanks to the collection built up in previous years.

The budget of the 2nd Szentimre Summer Camp (2021)

For the 2021 camp, we were able to reduce travel costs (we had two cars) by 60%.

We spent part of the amount for equipment on items that could be used in the long term (e.g. parachutes, cones).

The budget of the 1st Szentimre Winter Camp (2020)

The low cost of equipment and meals in the 2020 winter camp was justified by the shorter duration (three days). Travel was arranged by plane and bus booked months in advance.

*Translation of the image: étkezés - meals - 51,000 HUF, utazás - travel - 107,000 HUF, eszköz - equipment - 49,000 HUF.

In 2019, we spent more on travel than in later years: only one of us was driving at the time, so we took a rented minibus to Nyárádszentimre. The cost of meals has gradually increased over the years, entirely due to rising prices.

The annual breakdown of the camps' budget (HUF)

Private donations collected during our fundraising campaigns in 2019, 2021, and 2023 covered the full budget of the 2020 winter camp, as well as 30% (2019), 66% (2021), 40% (2022), 52% (2023), and 38% (2024), respectively, of the summer camps' expenditures.

The annual breakdown of the funding received from the Eszter Andorka Grant (HUF)

We applied for funding to the Grant of the ELCH for all our summer camps. In 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024, we were awarded the full amount of the grant by the Board of Trustees, and in 2021, we received a partial grant.

The amount and usage of private donations by year (HUF)

So far, we have organised three fundraising campaigns, collecting more than 1.8 million HUF in total. In 2019 and 2021, 17 people, in 2023, 22 people donated, six donors in all three, seven of them in two years.

Donations from 2019 lasted for three camps: the last part of it was spent in the 2021 summer camp. The donations of 2021 were also used in three camps. Moreover, the preparation weekend in Budapest in the spring of 2023 was fully funded by these.

In 2023, we received a record high amount of donations, much of which we spent in the summer camp, although we still had 525 thousand HUF left for the following years. In 2024, 149 thousand HUF of this was spent on the summer camp and 31 thousand HUF on the youth workshop. We begin the 2025 season with 345 thousand HUF.

of private donations (HUF)

Of the money raised by our supporters in 2019, 2021, and 2023, we spent some in all camps. The biggest amount was spent during the 4th summer camp.

The number of hours of volunteering

In most camps so far, nine adult volunteers (eight in 2021, eleven in 2023) participated, while the HOB youth workshop of 2024 was implemented by five of us. Until now, altogether 17 people took part in Szentimre camps, 5 of us came every year. From 2021, teenagers from Szentimre have also helped with the implementation of the programs, and from 2023, they have assisted with the organisation, too. In total, we provide more than 1000 hours of volunteering work per camp.

*Translation of the image: 5 volunteers participated every year, the rest in 2 to 4 years. In 2023, two non-Hungarian speakers joined as volunteers. Every year at least 1 new volunteer joined the team.
